Terms of Service
Last updated: 7 November 2026
The short version. You must be 16 or older. What you post stays yours, but you let us show it on Sidequel. Be decent: no harassment, hate, sexual content, spam or illegal content. We can remove content and suspend accounts that break these rules. Sidequel is in beta, so things can change or break.
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Dimitrios Sideridis, Thessaloniki, Greece, who runs Sidequel ("we", "us"). They apply to the app at app.sidequel.app, our mobile apps and everything else we offer under the Sidequel name (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. Who can use Sidequel
- You must be at least 16 years old.
- You must not have been suspended from Sidequel before, unless we agree otherwise.
- During the closed beta you need an invite code to create an account. Invite codes are personal to the people we give them to; please don't sell them.
3. Your account
- Give a real email address that you can access. We use it for account emails such as verification and password reset.
- Keep your password secret. You are responsible for what happens on your account. If you think someone else has access to it, change your password right away (this logs out all your other devices) and tell us.
- Don't pick a username that impersonates another person or brand, or that is offensive. We may change or remove such usernames.
- One person, one account, unless you have a good reason and it doesn't harm anyone (for example a second account to test something). Don't create accounts to get around a block or a suspension.
4. Your content
Your Sidequels, comments, messages, images, profile and everything else you post ("your content") stay yours.
To run Sidequel we need your permission to use your content. So you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, display and send your content, and to make technical changes (like resizing an image), only to operate, show and improve the Service. For example: showing your Sidequel to your followers, or delivering a message you send. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups until they expire, and content other people have already received (for example a message you sent before deleting your account).
You confirm that you have the right to post your content. Sidequels are, by nature, ideas about other people's films: that's welcome. But don't upload images, video frames or texts you don't have the right to share beyond what the law allows (for example quoting a short line), and don't copy other users' Sidequels and present them as your own.
5. Rules
Don't use Sidequel to post, send or do anything that:
- is illegal, or encourages illegal activity;
- harasses, threatens, bullies or intimidates someone, or shares someone's private information without their consent;
- attacks people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or a similar characteristic;
- is sexually explicit, or sexualises minors in any way;
- shows or glorifies graphic violence, or encourages self-harm;
- is spam: repeated or automated posting, mass following or messaging, misleading links, or advertising nobody asked for;
- impersonates someone or misleads people about who you are;
- infringes someone's copyright, trademark or other rights;
- tries to break, overload or get around the security of the Service, its rate limits, blocks or suspensions, or to access accounts or data that aren't yours;
- collects data about other users by automated means (scraping, bots) without our written permission.
Fiction is fine: a Sidequel can be dark, violent or sad if the film is. The rules are about how you treat real people and what you actually post, not about the stories themselves.
6. Reporting and moderation
- You can report a Sidequel, comment, message or account from its ⋯ menu, and block any account.
- We review reports and may, at our discretion, remove content, remove a profile photo or bio, or suspend accounts that break these terms or the law. While suspended, an account and its content are hidden from everyone.
- If you think we made a mistake about your content or account, write to support@sidequel.app and explain why. We'll look at it again and reply.
- If you believe something on Sidequel is illegal, report it in the app or email us. Authorities can contact us at support@sidequel.app (in English or Greek).
7. Content from other services
Movie information and images come from TMDB. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. GIFs are provided by GIPHY. Their content belongs to them or their licensors, and their own terms apply to it. We are not responsible for the accuracy of movie information.
8. Beta and changes to the Service
Sidequel is in development. Features can change, be added or be removed, and the Service may sometimes be unavailable. We keep backups, but please keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose. We may also stop offering the Service; if we do, we'll give you reasonable notice when we can.
9. Ending your account
- You can delete your account at any time (Profile → ⋯ → Delete account). It is permanently deleted after 30 days; logging in before then cancels the deletion. See the Privacy Policy for details.
- We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect other users.
10. Liability
Sidequel is free and provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we don't give guarantees that it will always be available, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose, and we are not liable for indirect damage or for content posted by other users.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as liability for intent or gross negligence, or your rights as a consumer under the laws of the country where you live.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. We'll update the date at the top, and for important changes we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you don't agree with the new terms, you can delete your account; if you keep using Sidequel after they take effect, the new terms apply.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Greek law. Courts in Thessaloniki, Greece have jurisdiction, but if you are a consumer you can also bring a claim in the courts where you live, and you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country.
